Day 1: Travel from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.
When you arrive in Kigali, your safari guide will pick you up, have a safari briefing then start your journey to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The drive takes around 4-5 hours, enjoying a breathtaking view of Rwanda’s undulating hills, lush landscapes, and the stunning Virunga Mountains. En route, you will stop for lunch at a local Rwandan cuisine restaurant.
As you cross the border into Uganda, the terrain changes to the lush woods of Bwindi, which are recognized for the mountain gorillas. When you arrive at your lodge, you will check in and have time to relax while taking in the tranquil beauty of the forest. Dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla habituation adventure
Following an early morning breakfast, you will be transported to the park headquarters for a briefing by park rangers. You will next start on a trip through the deep jungle, escorted by professional trackers who will utilize their skills to find the gorillas.
When you identify the gorilla family, you will spend an unforgettable four hours with them, witnessing their mannerisms, interactions, and daily routines. This extra time allows you to learn more about their lives while also contributing to research and conservation initiatives.
Following the habituation experience, you will return to the starting area, where your driver will be waiting to transport you back to the lodge.
Day 3: Departure(gorilla habituation Kigali)
On your final day, have a leisurely breakfast before beginning your journey back to Kigali. The trip back provides another opportunity to take in Uganda and Rwanda’s gorgeous surroundings. You’ll stop for lunch along the road to enjoy the local warmth and food one final time.
If time allows, you may take a quick city tour of Kigali, stopping by sights like the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn more about Rwanda’s history and resilience. Finally, you will be taken to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight.

A valid passport with at least six months’ remaining validity is required for the border crossing, along with a Uganda e-visa or East Africa Tourist Visa arranged in advance, since neither is available on arrival for most nationalities. A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required if arriving from a country with risk of transmission, and this is checked at the border.
Because the habituation experience itself runs a full four hours once the gorilla family is located, on top of the trek in and out of the forest, this is physically one of the more demanding single-day activities across our Uganda itineraries. A reasonable level of fitness matters more here than for standard trekking, and travelers should be candid with us about fitness level and any mobility concerns when booking, since Rushaga’s terrain varies and porters, while available, cannot substitute for genuine physical preparation on a day this long.

Rangers and trackers typically receive a tip at the end of the trekking day, generally scaled to group size, while your driver-guide is usually tipped separately at the end of the full trip given their role extends beyond the trekking day itself.
