Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala or Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park and Visit the Top of the Falls
Your safari begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel, residence, or Entebbe International Airport. You will meet your driver-guide who will brief you about the journey before starting the drive northwest toward Murchison Falls National Park.
The drive takes you through Uganda’s countryside, passing through local villages, farmlands, and small towns. Along the way, you will experience the changing landscapes as you move from central Uganda toward the savannah regions of the north. A stop will be made at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, where you can enjoy an optional guided rhino tracking experience. The sanctuary protects Uganda’s only wild rhinos and plays an important role in restoring the species in the country.
Continue toward Murchison Falls National Park with a lunch stop en route before entering the park.
In the afternoon, visit the top of Murchison Falls, one of Uganda’s most spectacular natural attractions. Here, you will witness the Nile River squeezing through a narrow gorge only a few meters wide before exploding into powerful rapids below.
The viewpoint offers excellent opportunities for photography and allows you to feel the strength of the world’s longest river as it forces its way through the rocks.
After the visit, continue to your lodge for check-in, relaxation, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive and Afternoon Nile River Boat Cruise
Wake up early and enjoy breakfast before setting out for a morning game drive on the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park.
The early morning hours provide some of the best wildlife viewing opportunities because many animals are active before the heat of the day. Your guide will drive through the savannah plains searching for elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, waterbucks, warthogs, and other wildlife.
With luck, you may also spot predators such as lions and leopards resting after a night of hunting. The park is one of Uganda’s best destinations for observing large mammals in their natural environment.
Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation.
In the afternoon, head to the jetty for one of Uganda’s most memorable safari experiences, the Nile River boat cruise.
The boat travels upstream toward the base of Murchison Falls, passing along the banks where wildlife gathers to drink and cool down. You will see large groups of hippos in the water, Nile crocodiles resting along the shoreline, elephants approaching the river, buffaloes grazing nearby, and numerous birds including kingfishers, herons, and African fish eagles.
The cruise ends near the bottom of Murchison Falls, providing spectacular views of the powerful waterfall from the water.
Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Morning Game Drive and Return to Kampala or Entebbe
After breakfast, enjoy your final game drive in Murchison Falls National Park.
This morning drive provides another opportunity to explore the savannah and search for wildlife species that may not have been seen during the previous game drive. The peaceful morning atmosphere creates excellent conditions for photography and wildlife observation.
After the game drive, leave the park and begin the journey back to Kampala or Entebbe.
Enjoy lunch along the way while experiencing more views of Uganda’s countryside. Depending on your arrival time, you may make a stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary or other attractions along the route.
Arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the late afternoon or evening, where your driver-guide will drop you off at your hotel, residence, or Entebbe International Airport.

This length suits travelers who specifically want the Murchison Falls experience, the dramatic waterfall, classic savannah game viewing, and the Nile itself, without adding further destinations, whether as a standalone trip or a focused addition to a longer Uganda circuit.
Practical Notes
A Uganda e-visa or East Africa Tourist Visa, arranged before travel, is required for most nationalities, along with a yellow fever vaccination certificate if arriving from a country with risk of transmission. Travel insurance covering trekking or wildlife activities and medical evacuation is strongly recommended, and malaria prevention is worth discussing with a travel health clinic ahead of your trip.
US dollars printed after 2009 are widely accepted for park fees, permits and lodge bills across this itinerary, while Ugandan shillings are more practical for tips, markets and smaller day-to-day purchases along the route. Mobile network coverage is generally reliable at lodges and along main routes but becomes patchy inside parks and forest reserves.
Because permits and lodge availability are limited, particularly during the June to September and December to February peak seasons, we recommend booking this itinerary at least three to four months in advance for peak-season travel.
Tipping is customary though not compulsory across this itinerary. Guides typically receive a tip at the end of any guided activity, generally scaled to group size, while your driver-guide is usually tipped separately at the end of the full trip.

The dry seasons, roughly December to February and June to September, offer the easiest game-viewing conditions and driest park roads, though Murchison rewards visits across most of the year given its permanent Nile-fed water sources that keep wildlife concentrated near the river regardless of season.
The wetter months bring lush scenery and excellent birdlife, along with noticeably fewer visitors and lower rates, a worthwhile trade-off for travelers who don’t mind occasionally muddier roads in exchange for a quieter park experience.
Top of the Falls and Boat Cruise
Murchison Falls, where the entire Victoria Nile forces itself through a gap in the rock only a few metres wide before plunging some 43 metres into the Devil’s Cauldron below, can be experienced from two very different vantage points. A launch cruise along the Nile from the base of the falls brings you close to pods of hippos, basking crocodiles and elephants drinking at the water’s edge, with the roar of the falls building as the boat approaches. A short hike to the top of the falls, meanwhile, puts you directly beside the point where the river is compressed into that narrow gorge, and the raw power of the water at close range is something photographs rarely capture accurately. Most itineraries through Murchison Falls National Park combine both perspectives.

US dollars are widely accepted for park fees, permits and larger payments across the region, though local currency is generally needed for smaller purchases, tips and market shopping, and it is worth carrying a mix of both. Bank notes printed before 2009 are frequently refused at borders and by vendors, so it is worth requesting newer notes from your bank before travel.
