How to Get to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Air and road transportation are the two ways to get to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

By air: regular or chartered flights are available to get there.The domestic airline Aero Link Uganda is based at Entebbe International Airport. Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo, and Rushaga are the four gorilla trekking sectors in Bwindi that are conveniently accessible by road and air.

The four gorilla sectors are near one of the four airstrips, and the relatively carrier that typically flies to Bwindi is Aero Link, which lands you at Kihihi or Kisoro Airstrip from Entebbe Airport or Kajjansi Airfield.

The closest airport to the Buhoma and Ruhija trailheads is Kihihi, whereas Kisoro is the closest to Rushaga and Nkuringo, which are located to the south. The distance between the two airports is roughly 40 kilometers, and it often takes one hour and thirty minutes to drive there.

By road: Buhoma and Ruhija in the north and Rushaga and Nkuringo in the south are the four gorilla trekking trailheads that lead to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. It takes around two to three hours to go to the Buhoma, the primary gorilla trekking trailhead, from Queen Elizabeth National Park; you approach the park via the Ishasha sector.

Lake Mburo National Park-Bwindi is accessible by road to a number of trailheads in 5–7 hours.

Approximately 23 habituated gorilla families, which are separated into four gorilla sectors—Buhoma, Nkuringo, Ruhija, and Rushaga—remain concentrated in this area.

The mountain gorillas, which can be found through gorilla trekking, are the primary tourist destination in Bwindi. A proper permit, which may be obtained directly from the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) or through a reliable tour operator, is required to go gorilla trekking. The cost of gorilla trekking permits in Uganda is $800 per person, while the cost of gorilla habitats is $1,500.

How to Travel to the Impenetrable National Park of Bwindi

The breathtaking activity of gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park begins early in the morning following breakfast, and participants are driven to the park headquarters for a training on gorilla policies and procedures. Following that, you will meet with your guide to form an eight-person group. The ranger guide will then lead you along forest trails to find the mountain gorilla, which may take anywhere from 30 to 7 hours, depending on where they are.

After they are assigned, you will have an hour to spend with the gorillas, learning about their habits, feeding, playing, taking pictures, and recording movies for future memories.

An amazing full-day experience, gorilla habituation begins with a briefing before you are led by a ranger guide, a journalist, a doctor, and a researcher to become acclimated to the gorilla family. After you assign them, you will have four “four hours” to spend with the gorillas, during which you will be able to take pictures, play with the animals, and gather gorilla samples, among other activities.

The ideal time of year to go on a gorilla safari is during the dry season, which runs from June to mid-September and December to February.
