2025 gorilla trekking permits in Uganda

2025 gorilla trekking permits in Uganda.

In 2025, Uganda will grant gorilla trekking permits to visitors over the age of 15 who wish to spend an hour with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. These permits are issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority, a government agency responsible for tourism and conservation. The most popular activity in Uganda is gorilla trekking, which is done in two locations: Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in the southwest of the country and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The cost of a 2025 gorilla trekking permit in Uganda is 300,000 UGX per person for East African nationals, 800 USD per person for foreign non-residents, and 700 USD per person for foreign residents. For non-resident foreigners, a gorilla habituation permit costs 1,500 USD per person; for locals, it costs 1,000 USD per person; and for East African natives, it costs 750,000 UGX per person.

The cost of the gorilla trekking permit includes, among other things, park admission fees, the services of a trained Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide, security provided by armed park guards, and one hour spent with the mountain gorillas.

When to reserve Ugandan gorilla trekking permits for 2025

Although it is possible to reserve 2025 gorilla trekking permits in Uganda at any time of year, it is best to do so three to six months prior to the trekking date, particularly during the dry season, which runs from June to September and December to February. Permits are competitive and sell out rapidly during the dry season, so making reservations in advance is necessary to prevent last-minute disappointments.

Ugandan gorilla hiking experience

Uganda is the most popular gorilla destination because it is home to half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. In both Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, gorilla trekking begins early in the morning with a briefing at park headquarters regarding the rules and regulations to be followed.

Following the briefing, you will be split up into groups of eight people based on a number of criteria, including age, personal preference, and level of physical fitness. Depending on where they are, trekking with mountain gorillas can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 7 hours.

While trekking, you can see chimpanzees, black and white colobus monkeys, l’hoest monkeys, view mammals, various bird species, plant and tree species, and other primate species. Once the mountain gorillas have been located, you will have the opportunity to spend an hour with them in their natural environment.

This will allow you to observe how they go about their daily lives, including feeding, nursing, playing, and grooming their young. You will also be able to learn more about their behaviors, take pictures, and document the amazing moments to share with others back home after the safari.
