Things to Do and See in Nyungwe National Park: While on a Rwanda safari, there are many amazing things to do and see at Nyungwe National Park. Even still, the most popular and popular activity for park visitors is chimpanzee trekking.

More than 13 different species of primates, including blue, L’hoest, owl-faced, golden, red-tailed, crowned, Dent’s Mona, velvet, olive baboon, grey-cheeked mangabey, chimpanzee, and Angola Colobus monkeys, can be found in Nyungwe National Park.
Activities and sights in Nyungwe National Park

The Canopy walkway is the ideal approach to experience the splendor of Nyungwe National Park, an old forest. Thankfully, it is the only 60-meter-tall attraction in East Africa, and the sturdy steel bridge that was erected atop the tree provides tourists with a breathtaking aerial view of the birds, primates, and unending forest.
Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the stunning landscape and wildlife species from the viewing locations along the walkway. It begins at the Uwinka visitor center and lasts for approximately two hours.

Observing birds
One of the few best places in East Africa to go birdwatching is Nyungwe National Park. More than 300 bird species call it home, 26 of which are unique to the Albertine Rift. Ruwenzori turaco, regal sunbirds, Rockefeller’s sunbird, Ruwenzori apalis, Ruwenzori batis, Ruwenzori nightjar, Ruwenzori turaco, Great blue turaco, Handsome francolin, Kivu ground thrush, Kungwe apalis, Mountain masked apalis, Neumann’s warbler, Purple-breasted sunbird, Red-collared babbler, Red-faced woodland warbler, and Red-throated alethe are just a few of the birds that can be seen in Nyungwe National Park.
Starting from your hotel room window, tracking primates, or even just watching them from the canopy walk, birding in Nyungwe is incredibly gratifying.
Hikes and nature walks
The natural hikes in Nyugwe can be done on a variety of amazing paths, and it may take a week to explore them all. Bigugu trails, Ngabwe trails, Canopy trails, Kamiranzovu Marsh trails, Congo Nile trails, Karamba birding trails, Irebero trails, Isumo waterfall trails, Umugote trails, Muzimu trails, Rukuzi trails, and Umuyove trails are among the most beautiful routes. Nonetheless, Bigugu and Igishigishigi are the most beautiful.
Because the terrain is unpredictable, we advise that you be physically healthy enough to enjoy a nature walk before beginning.
Chimpanzee trekking
One of the most memorable experiences is chimpanzee trekking, which begins at 5 a.m. with an explanation of chimpanzee laws and regulations. Following that, you will be placed in a group of no more than eight individuals.
However, always keep in mind to pack hiking shoes, a rain poncho, thick, long-sleeved shirts for the cold, long pants to shield you from long, creeping exotic insects, and binoculars to get a better look at the chimps. The duration of the trekking trip can range from thirty to five hours. You are given an hour to observe and learn about these critters and how they live in the forest after you have placed them in their natural habitat.
Trekking with Colobus Monkeys
One of the 13 hiking routes in Nyungwe Forest takes you into the home of creatures such the Grey-Cheeked Mangabeys, L’Hoest Monkeys, Owl Faced Monkeys, Blue Monkeys, and Mona Monkeys. You will be escorted by a guide as you follow this trail, and you may see up to 200 Rwenzori Colobus Monkeys along with various bird species and stunning butterflies.
Accessibility: It takes four to five hours to drive the 225 kilometers from Kigali town-airport to Nyungwe National Park. Additionally, it takes roughly five to six hours to drive 265.3 kilometers from Kinigi to Rusizi via the Ruhengeri-Gisenyi route from Volcanoes National Park.
A visitor from Akangera National Park can travel 32.2 kilometers in 7 to 8 hours by car.
