Overview

This 5-day Kenya safari takes you to two of the country’s top wildlife regions, Masai Mara and Lake Nakuru National Parks, for exhilarating game viewing drives, bird watching, breathtaking landscape gazing, and authentic Maasai culture experiences.

The capital of Kenya, Nairobi, serves as both your beginning and final destination. From here, you’ll be driven across the Great Rift Valley to the stunning Lake Nakuru National Park, a birder’s delight. Nakuru is home to over 420 bird species and diverse animals, including white rhinos, black rhinos, leopards, lions, and Rothschild giraffes.

Detailed Itinerary

(Nakuru and Masai mara)

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Lake Nakuru

You will be picked up from your accommodation in Nairobi or at the airport and start your gentle drive out of Nairobi, heading northwest. As you go, take in the sights and sounds of Nairobi, a fascinating East African metropolis known as the “green city in the sun”.

You’ll get to your lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, take some time to unwind before embarking on an afternoon game drive in search of endangered Rothschild’s giraffes, black rhinos, white rhinos, Cape buffalos, leopards, zebras, impalas, lions, olive baboons, hyenas, gazelles, waterbucks, hippos, and other wildlife.

You’ll travel along Lake Nakuru’s shoreline to witness a wide range of species, including stunning pink greater and lesser flamingos, pelicans, cormorants, egrets, herons, ibises, ducks, spoonbills, fish eagles, kingfishers, and more. After a game drive, you’ll return to your lodge to unwind, dinner, and sleep.

Day 2: Transfer to Masai Mara

Following breakfast, you will travel to Masai Mara National Reserve. You’ll arrive in the afternoon, just in time for lunch at your lodge or camp.

Following lunch, you will embark on your first game drive in this world-renowned game reserve. Dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Explore Masai Mara.

A full-day game drive in the Masai Mara increases your chances of seeing a variety of animal species in the reserve. Your safari adventure will start before daybreak since wildlife is most active in the early and late hours of the day.

During these hours. If lucky, you may even see predators hunting including; a lion pursuing and killing a wildebeest or a cheetah chasing a gazelle.

You will have the opportunity to see all of Africa’s Big Five mammals and other wildlife, as well as over 450 kinds of birds. You will be provided with a picnic lunch and lots of drinking water to ensure that you can fully enjoy your excursion. There is also an optional hot air balloon safari at sunrise.

Day 4: Morning game drive and evening cultural to the Masai community.

Today’s morning wildlife drive in the Masai Mara National Reserve will be exciting again. After the wildlife drive, you will return to your lodge for lunch and some relaxation. In the afternoon, you will go to a Maasai village and learn about the interesting culture of the famous Maasai people.

The cultural experience will begin with a traditional dance performed by both men and women. Your guide will next walk you through the hamlet, teaching you about their customs and beliefs, as well as daily routines such as how to light a fire with twigs and animal dung.

You will also have the opportunity to visit Maasai people’ houses and observe family life arrangements.

Your trip will also involve firsthand contact with “the Morans,” young Maasai males trained as soldiers to protect their villages. The Morans were previously required to slay a lion as a rite of passage into manhood.

At the end of the guided tour, there will be an opportunity to purchase some gift items and curios created by the locals – a way to contribute back to the local community.

Day 5: Departure.(Nakuru and Masai mara)

Have breakfast before embarking on a last game drive to view the spectacular dawn over the Mara savannas. After that, you’ll return to the lodge to check out and travel to Nairobi. Depending on the time of your flight, you will stop for lunch or last-minute shopping and thereafter, the driver will drop you off Kenyatta International Airport in time for your departure flight.
