Rushaga sector
One of the four gorilla sectors in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Rushaga, where gorilla trekking is conducted. Nkuringo, Ruhija, and Buhoma are additional sectors. In terms of tourism history, the park is well known for its efforts to save the endangered mountain gorillas. Furthermore, Bwindi is well-known since it is home to half of the world’s remaining wild mountain gorilla population. There are more than 650 of the 1065 mountain gorillas in the park.
There are five gorilla groups in the Rushaga sector, which is one of the most numerous. The park is home to around 23 habituated gorilla families, which are separated into four gorilla sectors.
The Nshongi, Busingye, Kungye, Bweza, and Mishaya families are among the gorilla families found in the Rushaga region. In contrast to other Bwindi regions, this essay explains the benefits of learning about the Rushaga sector and the reasons you should travel there.
The Reasons for Trekking in This Area;
Visitors that travel to the Rushaga region for gorilla trekking will have the chance to see the mountains and volcanoes in the distance, but the vistas of the Virunga, Gahinga, and Muhavura are particularly striking. The opportunity to see Africa’s deepest crater lake, Lake Bunyonyi, exists.
You will be in awe of the stunning hills and valleys as you drive to this area and take in Kisoro district’s splendor.
We recommend that you reserve your gorilla permits in advance because there are many habituated gorilla families in the Rushaga sector. Only eight persons are permitted to trek each gorilla family, and over 40 permits are sold out every day. Although it’s the only sector where you can undertake the “Gorilla Habituation Experience,” four persons are permitted to carry our habituation in this area.
Depending on your level of physical fitness, visitors are suggested to inquire about the gorilla family of their choice before obtaining a permit. This is due to the fact that gorilla families are spread out around the region, and rangers are aware of each family’s location for trekkers who want to experience this family.
The Rushaga region is home to several top-notch lodges, including Gorilla Safari Lodge, Gorilla Camp, Rushaga Gorilla Haven Lodge, and Nshongi Gorilla Camp, among others, that offer luxurious, mid-range, and budget lodging with all the amenities you could possibly need.
Compared to other areas, this one offers a lot more activities, such as the Gorilla Habituation, where guests may spend four hours with the gorillas and see how they eat, play, and behave.
Information Regarding the Habituation Experience of Gorillas
Gorilla Habituation event: This is a very humbling event in which gorillas are first trained for two to three years to become accustomed to humans. The gorilla family is made accessible to tourists after they are permitted to make eye contact with people. Researchers, medical professionals, and park rangers will guide you through the woodland trails in pursuit of them during this all-day adventure.
You will have four hours to observe and learn about their behaviors after you have assigned them.
Located in the southwest of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to the enchanted mountain gorillas. The travel there takes approximately eight to nine hours. As an alternative, the park is reachable by domestic flight Aero Link Uganda, which “lands 1:30 hours” from Entebbe International Airport to Kihihi or Kisoro Airstrip.
